Digital Media
3rd - 28th August, 2011
GOTO10's public intervention emits Dylan Thomas' essay, commissioned for the Festival of Britain in 1951, across the WiFi airwaves to be intercepted by your smart phone or laptop from as far afield as Waterloo Bridge. The poetry as data is regenerated into groups of adjectives, nouns or verbs, fed through forty two WiFi networks and can be viewed as a stream of constant updates, extending the poetry library’s presence beyond the physical space of the Royal Festival Hall. Originally titled [AP]OIEŌ, the motherboard was fused, tested and developed during a recent residency at SPACE, and for the first time is connected to a bank of unassuming digital aerials installed in the library. GOTO10 is an international digital arts collective, headed by Rob Canning who is completing a PhD in Sonic Arts at Goldsmiths. Their commitment to open source software promotes a collaborative online dialogue between artists and programmers to develop digital arts tools. Visit http://goto10.org to get involved.
GOTO10's public intervention is kindly supported by SPACE.
Prompted by the Festival of Britain celebrations, Art on Poetry is a dedicated season of artists' books at the Saison Poetry Library. Twelve internationally acclaimed artists are given a rare opportunity to draw upon Southbank Centre's archives and re-consider British identity sixty years on.
The Saison Poetry Library is situated on the fifth level of the Royal Festival Hall and open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am - 8pm.
